Banyule council events: "Twilight Sound" & "Kids Arty Farty Fest" part 1

I worked as an event assistant at the Banyule council events over the weekend.

"Twilight Sound" & "Kids Arty Farty Fes"

The events took place at Sills Bend at Heidelberg.

After 1 and half tram&train ride from my house,

I finally reached the Heidelberg station.

Heidelberg is still in zone 1 but it's really far from my house.

I see the event flag!

From the station, I walked for 30 mins to get to the event venue.

I'd never been to this area before so I was lost on my way to the venue...

walk walk...

walk walk..

Walk walk...

Yes!

After asking 3 passerby for directions,

I finally found the event sign board!

It was a good exercise!

Melbourne Museum

"I want Australia to be happy.
And I want my family to be happy.
I want the animals to be free"

"People should care about each other"

I went to the Melbourne museum few weeks ago.
I love this place.

It is really an interesting place and has got a lot of things to see.
Students get free entrys so I used to come here all the time.

I am no longer a student...but I gained a free entry

It's because my friend is working at the museum as a volunteer.

He invited me to attend his museum tour.

I met him through the volunteering program at ACMI.
All the people I met at ACMI so far are very nice

Museums have been one of my favourite places.
I especially like to visit museums when I visit a new country/place.
I've been to the British museum in London
and the Australian museum in Sydney, for example.
I can spend hours in those museums by myself.

Tutankhamun exhibition is coming up in April.
I love all the historical exhibitions related to Egypt...

Can't wait

Grandmother's delicious chicken recipe

Deep fried jucy and soft chicken with sweet and spicy onion sauce.

I missed my grandma's chicken so I tried making one myself the other day.
So delicious!!

Recipe

Ingredients

  • Chicken thigh fillets 500g
  • Corn Starch 1 cup
  • ★Soya sauce 1 table spoon
  • ★Sake 1 table spoon
  • Tomato 1
  • Cucumber 1/2

Sauce ingredients

  • Onion 1
  • Shaved ginger 1 table spoon (I always buy a jar of shaved ginger.)
  • Chicken powder 1 tea spoon
  • Soya sauce 3 table spoons
  • Mirin 1 table spoon
  • Vinegar 2 table spoons
  • Sesame oil 1 tea spoon

Instructions

  1. Take out fat from the chicken thigh (I know Australian chicken thigh has lots of fat). If the fillets are too thick, slice them to make them flat. (When fillets are thick, it takes time to cook).

  2. Prepare a bowl with ★ ingredients. Place the fillets in the bowl and leave them for a while.

  3. Meanwhile, wash and cut the tomato and cucumber into small pieces. Then, rest them on a plate.

  4. Once the fillets absorbed the sauce, put the conr starch and deep fry them.

  5. Cut the fried chicken into eatable thin slices and place them on top of the sliced tomato and cucumber.

  6. Mix all the sauce ingredient together in a bowl and pour them on top of the chicken.

Easy&Tasty Croquettes recipe

Lastnight's dinner

Menu

  • Croquettes
  • Mayo prawn tempura
  • Potato salad
  • Seaweed, shiitake and egg soup
  • White rice

Croquettes have been my favourite food since I was small

In Japan, croquettes are very cheap (100yen or less per one)
so we tend to buy them rather than making them at home.
However, we can always make croquettes easily.
They are cheap to make as well.

So why not try making ones at home tonight

Easy&Tasty Croquettes Recipe

Ingredients

  • Medium sized Potatoes 3
  • Bread crumbs 1/2 to 1 cup
  • Flour 1/2 cup to 1 cup
  • Egg 1
  • Salts&pepper

Instructions

  1. Wash the potatoes and cut them into 4. Place them in a pot with boiling water. Put some salts. (You don't have to take out the potato skin at this stage. once you boil the potatoes with salts, skin will just peel off by themselves.)

  2. Once potatoes become soft, take them out of the water and mash them. Put some salts&pappers and leave the mashed potatoes in a bowl, let them cool down

  3. Once they are cold enough to touch, make flat round shapes.
Then, put flours all over the potatoes-> dip them into stired egg-> place bread crumbs all over the potatoes.

  4. Deep fry them slowly with low temperature.

Earth quake

I was finally able to call my family this afternoon.
My dad said he just came home from work.
Most of the train lines were stopped due to the earth quake.
So many people couldn't go home last night in Tokyo.
But that's ok, as long as people are safe...
The earth quake didn't affect Tokyo that much, but it did so badly on northern parts of Japan...
Things are really bad in Miyagi prefecture...

At the moment,
413 are dead, 784 are missing,1128 are injured. (according to MSN Japan Sankei news)

I hope that the number of deaths won't increase anymore.
I hope that such tragedy won't happen anymore...

これ以上死者の数が増えませんように。。。
もうこれ以上、悲しい出来事が起きませんように…

Following is from MSN Japan Sankei news

Earth quake/地震

I heard the news about Japan's earth quake from my friend on the phone.
She is Japanese and lives in Australia just like me.
She was calling every Japanese friend to find out about the earth quake.
I started panicking.
She asked me if I was at home and able to access the news online.
Unfortunately, I was out in city.

After hanging up the phone, I tried calling my family but couldn't reach them.
I was really scared and upset.

So I decided to call another Japanese friend.
I asked her if she was home, and she was!
I asked her to check the online news for me.

When I first heard the story, I thought that the earth quake happend right in Tokyo.
However, eventually I found out that it actually happend in northern part of Japan.

I quickly rushed home and checked my email.
My mom had actually sent me an email !
She said everybody was safe.

...I was so relieved.

2 of my friends (one in Australia, the other one in Tawain!) smsed me and called me to see if my family was alright.
I was so touched.

I was really happy that they concerned about my family.
Thank you, I love you both!!
