Tuesday lecture

I made it for my morning lecture today!!

It's actually my first time to attend the tuesday lecture.....aww

I always miss this lecture because...

I always feel so tired on tuesday morning,

and there will be lecture recordings online...(so technically I don't miss out anything)

and this is the only class I have on tuesday...

So I always sleep in..

But this morning, I thought

"I must stop being soooo lazy!!"

AHHHH!!!!

and I woke up :D

and I went to the lecture :) :)

But I went into a wrong lecture theatre.

....

There was a female lecturer standing in front of the screen.
(my lecture is a male)

I thought

"Never mind, she must be a guest lecturer or something...."

But then!

the lecturer started to speak in some other language.... (French? not English for sure!!)

That's when I realized that I was in a wrong class!!!! :O

Well, this happend all because I had been skipping the tuesday lecture!! X(

Bad, bad!

I won't miss my tuesday lecture from now on!!

giving opinions in tutorials

I don't know why but I always feel nervous to speak out in tutorials...
And even though I did the reading, people assume that I didn't when I don't talk in tutes.
I feel so upset when I spent hours and hours to do the readings but people think that I didn't do the readings at all...
I guess, one of the reasons why I feel so nervous to talk in tutes is that i have to speak in English...?
I guess I'm still not that confident in speaking in English in class, in front of many people.
While I don't mind giving presentations in front of many audience or participating in speech contests... it is a bit strange thing.
Anyway....
I'll try to speak at least one word in class from next week!!!
(I'm eating so much everyday due to the stress... hope I can stop eating like this soon too!!!)

Today's dinner & reading group

Today's dinner
*chinese cabbage&mushroom stir fry
*sea weed and egg soup (かき玉汁)
*white rice with flakes
*pickled plum Y I love pickled plumsssss
Vegetarian meal?!

I miss homeeeeeeeee...
and that's why today's dinner is very simple Japanese style.
I think it's always the food which reminds me of home.

I joined a "just for fun" reading group which my lecturer organized for students who want to read more and discuss more about media :)

I thought it might be a good idea to join because this is my final year in uni and i wanna learn more about media before I graduate from uni.
Also, since the lecturer said "it's for fun", the reading is not gonna be so challenging....

Yes, indeed, the reading was not that hard.
But then, it was very long.....
I'm quite stressed about the amount of the readings i have to do...

I just finished it though, i still have to read about 100 pages for my tutorials...

Oh well, that's what we all do in uni :(

about Monday

I finally recieved an reply from my course co-ordinator yesterday (after sending her emails twice) and she approved all my subjects!

Yayyy!! :D

ah I'm so relieved...and soooo happy!! :) :)

I don't need to worry about taking 3 extra subjects or extending my course... i can graduate on time!

I've been having nightmares and couldn't sleep well the past few days... but finally i can sleep well tonight! :) :)

Things are so flexible in Australia and I love it!!Even though I found things are not well-organized sometimes...

Well well, it's all good now! :)

*******

As usual on monday, I had new media lecture + tutorials + orchestra rehearsal.

I don't know why but my tute time slot is so popular and everybody wants to get in to my monday tute slot..
(maybe it's because the tute is straight after the lecture and very convenient?)

And now, my tute is so packed.... 24-27 people in one small tute room...

Last semester, I took a similar subject and had only 10 or 11 people in one tute..

My teacher was stressed about getting emails from students saying
"can i change to monday tute because...."

He (teacher) suggested to me and other people in the monday tute that we could sell our tute
time slot on Ebay since there is such a demand! :p

That's funny...

Now with the power of the new media, such as the internet, we can start our own business without establishing companies!

In yesterday's new media tute, we discussed about networked society. For example, in society, we are all connected to someone or to information through the networks of TV, radio, internet, youtube etc.

Similarly, not only the technology is seen as a network, but also our relationships with others themselves are seen as network, such as family and friends and how we are attached to and support each other.

As media has a great power to influence the society and even the world, it means that the more access you have to the media, more power you gain from it. The more networks you have (the more connections you have with others), the more power you gain.

For example, while people in developed countries have absolute power by having easy and constant access to media, others such as people in developing countries have almost no power
as they do not have access to media.

Similarly, I think thatif you have more family members, you are connected to more people in the society; therefore more secured. If both parents have jobs, even though one loses his or her job and disconnected from the society, the other parent still can be the station to connect the rest of the family members to the society.

I think the ideas are very interesting.

I love my new media class. It's very inspiring!

Darwinism and "Disgrace"

I had a lecture on darwinism this morning.

When I say, "I'm studying darwinism this semester,"

people often ask me, "is it related to Media at all?"

Well, in fact, No.

But I'm taking it because it seems fun!

And my lecturer for darwinism is the same lecturer for the subject called "Minds and Madness" which I studied last semester.

I loved studying "Minds and Madness"!

The subject was about the history of mental illness
-- people thought that I was a bit mad to take this unique subject but actually I was not mad at all! This was a great subject!
Besides, the teachers were friendly and the subject was very interesting!

Anyway, I've been taking those random subjects which are not really related to media. and I was very happy about it because I really enjoyed studying them.

And I thought that I was allowed to take these subjects because they are under Arts, and media course is actually part of Arts degree!

But then, I found that I wasn't.

A few days ago, I found that I've completed 3 Arts subjects as my media optional subjects while these subjects are not media optional subjects!

Basically it means, I completed 3 wrong subjects during my 2nd year. (and I'm still doing it for darwinism in my 3rd year).

I was very upset when I found about this huge mistake!
Becaues I might not be able to graduate on time.

I went to talk to my course advisor straight away (there were few course advisors but I went to talk to the one my friend recomended to me).

She was nice.
She suggested to me that I can try to seek approval from my course co-ordinator to accept those unrelated media subjects as my media subjects... (sounds hard, but i personaly believe that these subjects are actually somehow related to media) *finger corssed*

If she says yes, then I don't need to take 3 new subjects or extend my study.

Well, I sent her an email to seek her approval, but I haven't gotten any reply yet...
Hope she can help me.... :(:(

Anyway,

I also went to watch a movie called "Disgrace" tonight.

My friend went to SouthAfrica for an exchange study and she just came back to melbourne a few weeks ago!

She is taking part in her university's fundraising group for SouthAfrica and she told me that if i buy a movie ticket for "Disgrace" from her, some money goes to help people in Africa.

The ticket was slightly more expensive than normal ticket, but I looked at the movie review and critics and the movie seemed interesting so i went there.

The movie theatre was just across my house anyway!

Well, the movie was about SouthAfrica and how people live there.
It was a bit shocking.

I felt that the ending was not that good though...
Also I couldn't sympathize with the main characters at all...

But I think the show was good as in it effectively showed the way people live in SouthAfrica, and how hard the life can be there.

My new housemate is moving in tomorrow morning!
I gotta wake up early againnn :p

New semester

My housemates (both current and new) came back from their home countries today :)

I no longer need to talk to myself!
(I talk to myself a lot when I'm alone at home...)

Anyway, I had a 1 hour-lecture and a 2 hour-seminor about new media today! It was about how new media (such as youtube, online journalism, facebook etc) differs from old media (such as newspapers, TV, radio etc) and how such differences affect stake holders.

My lecturer has PHD in video games.
I found it very cool.

He said that every year, so many media students graduate from universities all over Australia, but there are only few media jobs available for them.

I was kinda worried when I heard this in the lecture because I just started my 3rd year and have to look for a job soon.

But then, he also told us that new media is the field where many of us can find jobs easily (or easier than in the field of traditional old media) because our generation uses and knows more about new media than older generations. And so we can use such knowledge as an advantage when we look for a job :)

Basically, that's why we should study this subject.

I think this subject's gonna be something a bit similar to what i studied last semester (or more advanced version of it) and I think I'm gonna like it :)

I also had uni's orchestra rehearsal tonight
(We practice every monday night)

We've got 2 new conductors this semester and they both seemed nice!
Our music camp is coming up soon too :) i'm excited.

I'm so happy nowadays☆☆

hope this lasts till the end of this semester!

I have to wake up early tomorrow again... so i will update my recipe tomorrow.
